Tucked inside a restored brownstone south of DuPont Circle, this multilevel lounge can be easily missed by uninformed passerby. Only noticeable when the bouncer takes his post, the unmarked door leads patrons “above the mattress store” to a setting of shabby-chic couches, bottle service and some beautiful faces.

The venue has been going strong since it opened in 1995 and still maintains a commitment to local music scene. DJs spin hot urban tunes, those with the urge to boogie take to the dance floor and the general Sex and the City-meets-West Wing vibe gives out a rather powerful and seductive energy. There are also live bands showcased throughout the week, and music can be anything including hip hop, reggae, funk, Latin and jazz; so there is sure to be something to get your feet tapping.

During the warmer months, 18th Street Lounge (ESL) is especially popular amongst Washingtonians for its outdoor deck located in back of the bar.

Always busy but still spacious, this Connecticut corridor rooftop has a wide drink selection and seating available for those lucky enough to snag chairs. And as they usually have a DJ playing upstairs, 18th Street Lounge is just as great for dancing as it is people watching.
